How our Shetland holidays work

This five day holiday combines coach travel from Scotland, overnight sailings with NorthLink Ferries and a comfortable hotel stay on Shetland. It is a relaxed way to explore the islands with an expert guide, without having to arrange ferries, internal crossings or entrances yourself. Exact day-by-day itineraries may be subject to change, but the core inclusions remain the same.

From Scotland to Shetland

Join the coach at pickups across Ayrshire, Glasgow, the central belt and beyond – including Ayr, Irvine, Kilmarnock, Glasgow, Paisley, Hamilton, Bathgate, Edinburgh Hermiston Gait, Halbeath Park & Ride, Perth, Falkirk and Dundee. Travel to Aberdeen for your overnight sailing to Lerwick on NorthLink Ferries, with cabin accommodation and meals included.

Overnight NorthLink Ferries

Sail overnight from Aberdeen to Lerwick and back on NorthLink Ferries. Settle into a comfortable inside or outside cabin with ensuite facilities and bedding, enjoy included meals on board, and relax in the ship’s lounges and public areas as you cross the North Sea towards Shetland’s rugged coastline.

Brae Hotel & guided touring

Stay two nights at the Brae Hotel, a welcoming base with modern ensuite rooms, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and a restaurant showcasing local produce and Shetland seafood. Two full day guided tours with a qualified Shetland guide are included, with all internal ferries and entrances such as museums and historic sites covered.

Trips to Shetland start from only £749pp, with a typical £45pp deposit securing your place and the balance due later. Loch Lomond Travel uses fluid, dynamic pricing, so prices can increase as departures fill. All customer payments are paid into an independent Trust Account and held there until your holiday has safely returned.

Spend time in Lerwick, the capital of Shetland, with its harbour views, stone buildings and local shops. Visit the Shetland Museum and Archives or simply wander the waterfront and enjoy cafés and restaurants serving fresh local seafood.

Yell, Unst & the far north
Travel via Yell to Unst, the UK’s northernmost inhabited island. Discover the Old Haa Museum, enjoy included refreshments, visit Muckle Flugga viewpoints, explore Unst Boat Haven and a replica Viking longship and longhouse, and learn about the islands’ fishing and RAF history.

Deposit: Typically £45 per person to secure your place, with the balance due closer to departure.

  • The passport must be valid for at least three months after the intended return date
  • The passport must not be more than 10 years old on the day of return

Please note -
Drinks Packages exclude drinks/snacks from the cabin/suite mini bar and bottles of water (large and small).
Drinks Packages may be booked up to 7 days before the sailing date. If within 7 days of sailing, packages can only be purchased onboard, and the ‘Onboard Price’ will be applicable. 
Only one drink per person at any time may be ordered (minimum 15-minute wait between orders).
Alcoholic drinks are limited to 15 beverages per 24-hour period (6 am to 6 am). Alcoholic drinks requested above the daily limits will be charged with a 50% discount.
All drinks within the Ambassador Drinks Packages are served by the glass only.
Onboard purchase of the Ambassador Drinks Packages must be made within 24 hours of boarding the ship. For the avoidance of doubt, a cut-off date and time will be stipulated in the daily programme.
Standard spirit measures are 40ml  
Purezza bottled water in cabins isn’t included in any package and is chargeable at the applicable rate of £1.65 per bottle.
Guests can purchase a refillable Purezza water bottle from any outlet for £17.95, allowing them unlimited refills in this bottle.
Purezza bottle refills are not included in the drinks packages, but guests can have water by the glass which is included in all packages.
