Glenveagh Castle & National Park

This morning we enjoy a scenic drive through County Donegal, passing the imposing Mount Errigal and Bloodyforeland, named after the intense red hue of the rocks during sunset. We travel to the Glenveagh National Park, a designated Special Area of Conservation and one of six national parks in Ireland. Located in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains, the park is a remote and beautiful sanctuary of peaceful lakes, peat bogs and rugged mountains.

Glenveagh Castle and National Park, is a stunning combination of natural beauty and historical architecture. The park, encompassing over 170 square kilometers, is the second-largest national park in Ireland and features rugged mountains, serene lakes, and native woodlands. At its heart lies Glenveagh Castle, a 19th-century castellated mansion built by John George Adair, a wealthy land speculator.

The castle's romantic design and its opulent gardens, filled with exotic plants, provide a stark contrast to the wild landscapes surrounding it. Visitors can explore the richly decorated interior of the castle, which offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of its former inhabitants. After visiting the park and exploring the striking Glenveagh Castle, we continue our picturesque journey with a coastal drive along the Wild Atlantic Way to the lovely village of Dunfanaghy.

Wild Atlantic Way, a stunning 2,500 km coastal route along Ireland’s rugged west coast. This iconic journey reveals a tapestry of dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and vibrant seaside towns, perfect for adventurers and nature lovers alike.
