Edinburgh Zoo
Set on the hillside just outside Edinburgh, Edinburgh Zoo is a full day out with loads to see, from the famous penguin pool (home to king, gentoo and northern rockhopper penguins) to standout big animals like Sumatran tigers, Asiatic lions and a bachelor group of Nubian giraffes.
It’s an easy place to wander at your own pace, mixing big headline species with smaller surprises - including favourites like chimpanzees and capybara - and there are also daily talks and keeper moments that add a bit of extra insight as you go.
