Man City v Liverpool

Manchester City v Liverpool is easily the standout tie of the FA Cup quarter-finals, and it feels big for a reason. These are two of English football’s biggest modern rivals, but this season City have had the upper hand, beating Liverpool 3-0 at the Etihad in November and then winning 2-1 at Anfield in February, with Haaland scoring the late penalty that settled it.

That gives this cup tie a real edge. Liverpool are still more than capable of producing a huge performance, but City will come into it knowing they have already beaten them home and away this season.

What makes it interesting is that this fixture usually brings quality and intensity in equal measure. Across the full rivalry, Liverpool still lead the overall head-to-head, but only narrowly in recent years has it felt like one side can ever fully get on top of the other for long. Their most recent FA Cup meeting was that brilliant 2022 semi-final, when Liverpool edged City 3-2 at Wembley, so there is recent knockout history in this fixture too.

For City, it is the chance to knock out one of the biggest names left in the competition and keep another trophy push alive. For Liverpool, it is a massive opportunity to change the story of the season in one afternoon. That is what makes this such a good game - recent history, elite players, real needle between the clubs, and a place in the last four on the line.

On Sunday we head back to the ground, where you can Immerse yourself in the City story on the Manchester City Stadium Tour and visit areas of the Stadium not usually available to the public.
