    🏨 Fletcher Hotel, Wipselbergweg

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Wipselberg sits in a peaceful woodland estate setting, which gives it a relaxed, tucked-away feel and a real sense of getting away from it all. Guests often mention the friendly, helpful staff and a good breakfast, and it’s the kind of place that feels calm as soon as you arrive.

It has an on-site restaurant and bar, a terrace for a quiet drink, and free Wi-Fi in public areas. For unwinding, there’s an indoor swimming pool and wellness facilities including a sauna and steam room, plus extras like tennis if you fancy a bit of fresh air in the surroundings.

🧭 Nijmegen Walking Tour and the Overloon Museum

Nijmegen is one of the Netherlands’ oldest cities, and it’s a great place to explore on foot, with a compact centre full of character and a lively, local feel. Expect handsome squares and historic streets around the Grote Markt, the impressive Stevenskerk, and a rewarding wander down towards the river for views from the Waalkade and the Waalbrug, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks.

The Overloon Museum is a powerful, immersive visit that brings the story of the Second World War and liberation in the Netherlands to life through personal stories, large-scale displays, and a seriously impressive military collection. Highlights include its major WWII exhibitions and the vast hall of vehicles and equipment, alongside standout sections like the Lancaster Pavilion and the D-Day experience, making it one of those museums that stays with you long after you’ve left.

🪖 Arnhem and the Airborne Museum at Hartenstein

Arnhem is forever linked with the events of September 1944, and a guided tour brings the story to life as you stand at the places people recognise from history, including the John Frost Bridge over the Rhine. In the city centre, it’s also easy to appreciate Arnhem as a real, lived-in Dutch city, with landmark sights like St Eusebius’ Church and lively squares such as the Korenmarkt giving you a feel for the place beyond the battlefield story.

The Airborne Museum at Hartenstein in nearby Oosterbeek is a standout visit, housed in the former divisional headquarters during the Battle of Arnhem. The exhibitions combine original objects and personal accounts with the underground Airborne Experience, an immersive walk-through that many visitors describe as moving and memorable.

🌉 Rhine Crossing and Operation Plunder

This guided tour follows the dramatic final push across the Rhine in March 1945, when Allied forces forced a crossing near Wesel and Rees in a huge combined operation. Standing on the riverbank today, it’s easy to picture the scale of it all - vast open water, wide floodplains, and the ground that had to be secured under fire before bridges and supply lines could be pushed through.

You’ll trace the story through key locations linked to the crossing and the wider battle, including the areas where the assault landings took place and where the airborne landings supported the advance. Along the way, the guide brings the details to life - what was happening on the ground, why these sites mattered, and how this crossing opened the route deeper into Germany, turning the Rhine from a barrier into a turning point.
