🏨 The Bridge Hotel & Spa, Wetherby

The Bridge Hotel & Spa is a comfortable base in a peaceful Yorkshire setting, with a lovely country-house feel and a bit of history behind it as a former coaching inn.

A real highlight is the on-site Courtyard Spa, where you can unwind with facilities such as a sauna and steam room, plus experience features like a drench shower, foot spa and ice fountain, and outdoor hot tubs for that “switch off” feeling.

When it’s time to relax in the evening, there’s a restaurant on site for meals and a cosy bar area that’s ideal for a quiet drink. Bedrooms are en-suite and include handy essentials such as tea and coffee making facilities, free Wi-Fi and a TV.

🏰 York

York is one of those cities where you can pack a lot into a simple wander. York Minster is the big headline - even if you just admire it from outside, it’s a proper wow building, and if you go in you’ll see some of the finest medieval stonework and stained glass in the country. Not far away, The Shambles is the classic York experience - a narrow, cobbled medieval street with wonky, overhanging buildings and loads of little shops to browse.

If you fancy stretching your legs, the city walls are a brilliant way to get elevated views and really feel the history around you. And if you’re after something a bit different (and indoors if the weather turns), the National Railway Museum is a great shout - entry is free, and it’s one of York’s most popular stops for a reason.

🏘️ Wetherby & Thirsk

Wetherby is a lovely Yorkshire market town with a relaxed feel, ideal for a gentle wander. The riverside along the River Wharfe is a real highlight for a short stroll, and the town centre has a good mix of independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs for an easy break.

Thirsk has that classic North Yorkshire charm, centred around a pretty market place and friendly high street. It’s a great spot for a browse and a coffee, and if you fancy a bit of local flavour while you’re there, it’s well known as the home of James Herriot, with plenty of little touches around town that link back to that countryside heritage.
