Alton Towers
Alton Towers is one of those days out where you can make it as full-on or as relaxed as you want. If you’re there for the big stuff, the headline rollercoasters are properly iconic - The Smiler for its non-stop twists, Nemesis Reborn for that fast, forceful ride style, Oblivion for the straight-down drop, and Wicker Man for a wooden coaster that feels punchy and atmospheric. You’ve also got Rita for a rapid launch, TH13TEEN for a mix of thrills and surprises, Galactica for a smoother “flying” style experience, and Spinball Whizzer if you want something fun that still has a bit of bite.
For families, it’s just as strong. There are loads of gentler rides and themed areas, including CBeebies Land for younger kids, plus classic crowd-pleasers like Runaway Mine Train that feel exciting without being too intense. It’s a great one for mixed groups because you can split your time between the biggest coasters and the more easy-going attractions, and everyone still comes away feeling like they’ve had a great day.
